Leaving the Earth Behind

by Kiri Winder

endless whispering,

like a stream rushing to its end,

lingering for its final journey,

into an unknown place,

enraged by hollow voices.

leaving behind grains of truth,

instead of holding them in the heart,

eventually turn to dust,

disguised into natural Earth.

anguish began to flood the forest,

bewilderment shook the ground,

orchestrated by the trees whistling,

under the lifeless branches,

that only thrived in peace.

the smallest leaf danced with the whistle,

heading south to find a new home,

emptying the memories of the flooded forest

marbled with trauma and grief.
